From June 6 to September 22, 2025
This summer, Carcassonne is adorned with contemporary art through an exceptional exhibition of monumental works by Richard Orlinski, as part of the opening of the new Contemporary Art Center.
Starting June 6, 2025, embark on an artistic stroll in the heart of the city, discovering 5 monumental and colorful sculptures installed in emblematic locations of Carcassonne. An invitation to (re)discover the city through the eyes of a world-renowned artist.

An Artistic Journey Between Heritage and Modernity
In perfect harmony with Richard Orlinski’s philosophy, this outdoor exhibition transforms Carcassonne into an open-air museum. The sculptures, both powerful and playful, blend naturally into the urban landscape, creating an unprecedented dialogue between contemporary art and historical architecture. Discover 5 sculptures in 4 emblematic locations in the city:
- Parvis du Prado – Cité Médiévale : Kong
Facing the entrance of the mythical Cité Médiévale of Carcassonne, on the Parvis du Prado, the famous Kong welcomes you with strength and majesty. This emblematic figure embodies the tension between bestiality and humanity – a spectacular start to your artistic stroll.
- Square Gambetta : Le Crocodile et l’Homme
In this central and shaded garden, a striking scene awaits you: The Crocodile and the Man, a sculpture that questions our relationship with the animal world and our primal instincts. This is also where the official opening will be held on June 5 at 6:30 PM, in the presence of Richard Orlinski.
- Portail des Jacobins : Le Gorille
On the threshold of the city center, near the Portail des Jacobins, the Gorilla seems to guard the city gates. Angular and imposing, this work fascinates with its raw power and contained energy.
- Square André Chénier : L’Ours
In this green haven in the heart of Carcassonne, Orlinski’s Bear settles with nobility. A symbol of quiet strength and wild nature, it offers a contemplative pause to your stroll.
An Exhibition Accessible to All
True to his desire to democratize contemporary art, Richard Orlinski installs his works in public spaces, free of charge, accessible to all – curious passersby, families on a stroll, art enthusiasts, or simple wanderers. An exhibition for those who do not go to museums, and a unique opportunity to see Carcassonne differently.
About Richard Orlinski
Richard Orlinski is a French artist of international renown who gained recognition in the early 2000s for his instantly recognizable style, blending angular shapes, vibrant colors, and powerful animal-inspired figures. At the crossroads of pop art, urban aesthetics, and popular culture, his work explores our primary emotions—fear, fascination, instinct, strength—while celebrating the raw beauty of nature.
He has collaborated with renowned brands such as Puma, Disney, Lancôme, and Hublot, and has exhibited in major world capitals—from Miami to Dubai, from Paris to Hong Kong.
Richard Orlinski embodies a vision of art that is open, inclusive, and alive. His commitment to making art accessible to as many people as possible is central to his approach. This is why he regularly chooses to exhibit his works in public spaces, outdoors, far from the sometimes elitist codes of traditional museums or galleries. For him, art should meet passersby, integrate into daily life, and be part of the urban environment, as seen here in Carcassonne.
