It is one of the three churches designed by Viollet le Duc. Its construction lasted from 1849 to 1859. Its architecture is characterized by the Gothic vision of the famous architect.
The Church of Saint Gimer has been listed, along with the City of Carcassonne, in the directory of sites protected as UNESCO World Heritage.
