Discover the Bastide Saint-Louis and the Medieval City. These two emblematic districts of Carcassonne are the history of the city. The crusade against the Albigensians led to the conquest of the Viscounty of Carcassonne by the King of France. The city was then radically modified and the two suburbs, Saint-Vincent and Saint-Michel, which were at the foot of the walls, were razed. To relocate the population, Saint-Louis built a bastide (new town with a regular plan) which can still be seen today.
