BOUCLE – CARCASSONNE – TOUR DE VILLE
Presentation
From the port of Carcassonne, cycle around the little alleyways of the town centre and discover the many treasures of Bastide Saint Louis. On Saturday morning, at Place Carnot, well nick-named the "Place aux Herbes", you'll find a market selling fruits and vegetables and other foodstuffs. Close by, the Halles, house a covered market. In no time at all, you’ll find yourself on the banks of the Aude river (the river which gave its name to the department), where you can relax and soak up the views in this natural setting at the very heart of Carcassonne. If you look up, you'll see the next place to visit...the Medieval City. Listed a UNESCO world heritage monument, it is the jewel in the crown of Carcassonne. Moving along, you'll come to Pierre Paul Riquet's great achievement, the famous Canal du Midi, also on the UNESCO world heritage list. Pedal on a bit further to reach one of the canal's bridges and the triple lock. Follow the towpath and you'll end up right back where you started.
