Located about 50 kilometres to the south-east of Carcassonne, Villerouge is the Mediterranean gateway to the High Corbières. The castle has been completely restored and is a remarkable example of military architecture, most of which goes back to the 13th century. An audio-visual tour (in 3 languages) is available inside, entitled 'The Word of Guilhem Bélibaste, last of the Cathar "Perfects" '. The facing wing of the castle is occupied by the 'Medieval Rôtisserie', a restaurant that offers 14th-century cuisine and is the only one of its kind in Europe.
