DE BÉZIERS À CARCASSONNE, SUR LE GR® 78 CHEMIN DU PIEMONT PYRENEEN
Presentation
This route links the "Canal du Midi - Béziers" and "Cité de Carcassonne" Grands Sites, crossing the landscapes of the Biterrois and Minervois regions, between river heritage and Mediterranean vineyards. Departing from Béziers, you first discover the historic center and the heights overlooking the Orb valley, before quickly reaching the banks of the Canal du Midi.
As the stages progress, the route follows the canal and its emblematic structures, before gradually moving away from it to cross the wine-growing landscapes of the Minervois region. Characterful villages such as Capestang, Bize-Minervois and Rieux-Minervois punctuate the itinerary, offering stopping-off points in the heart of a region marked by wine-growing and limestone hills.
The route continues through hills, agricultural valleys and small streams, before returning to the river atmosphere of the canal on the approach to Carcassonne. The arrival opposite the famous medieval city is the culmination of a progressive and accessible itinerary, combining wine-growing landscapes, hydraulic heritage and villages typical of the south of France
