The Olympic Flame in Carcassonne

Come take part in this incredible event on May 16!

The Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (COJO) via its association “Paris 2024” and the Departmental Council of Aude, have chosen Carcassonne, already labeled Land of Games 2024, as a stopover city in the Olympic torch relay .

The Paris Torch Relay 2024

The City of Carcassonne, the Department of Aude and the Center for National Monuments, in conjunction with the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (COJO), are working to organize a special day, Thursday May 16 2024 to celebrate the arrival of the flame in Carcassonne.

A free event open to all which will allow the last torchbearer to light the cauldron at the foot of the medieval city.

Find the entire program as well as all the information for this day below:

Program for May 16:

  1. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Take advantage of participatory workshops to climb over the ramparts and experience new perspectives on the City and landscapes.
  2. From 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Find sports activities from the city’s different clubs. Enjoy workshops and demonstrations in Gymnastics, Rugby, Ju-jistu, dance…
  3. From 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Banque Populaire, Coca-Cola and other partners of the Paris 2024 Olympic Flame Relay will host numerous stands and activities on the Place du Prado (Medieval City).
  4. From 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.: Experience a moment of poetic immersion with an exceptional nighttime show designed for the main courtyard of the Count’s Castle. Aerial choreography, sculptures of moving bodies, videos and monumental shadow plays give short shrift to the genius of the place.

The Olympic Torch Journey

An unprecedented day is looming in the city of Carcassonne for the passing of the Olympic Flame. As a result, traffic and parking are prohibited along the entire route of the flame on May 16 as well as all roads perpendicular to the route.

Shows & Workshops: Vertical dances

On May 16, the Château Comtal in the heart of the Medieval city offers numerous activities throughout the day to amaze you.

  1. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Take advantage of participatory workshops to climb over the ramparts and experience new perspectives on the City and landscapes.
  2. From 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: The Retouramont company offers vertical dance shows on the castle walls. A magical fusion between contemporary dance, climbing and architecture, this magical moment is waiting for you.
  3. From 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.: Experience a moment of poetic immersion with an exceptional nighttime show designed for the main courtyard of the Count’s Castle. Aerial choreography, sculptures of moving bodies, videos and monumental shadow plays give short shrift to the genius of the place.

Discover the Carcassonne torchbearers of the Olympic flame

A look back at the presentation of the Paris 2024 Olympic flame torchbearers chosen by the City of Carcassonne. Interviews with Estelle Gaspard, Lina Hamria and Damien Crambes, who will proudly carry the Olympic flame.

Licensed at Carcassonne Olympique Jujitsu, she won her first world title at the age of 17, at the same time as her Bac S at the Paul Sabatier high school in Carcassonne.
