THE ORGAN ON TOUR
Presentation
Throughout his musical activity, organist Yves Rechsteiner has transcribed the works of many great composers for his instrument, from Johann Sebastian Bach to Frank Zappa.
For this concert, he offers the audience a journey through the music of these musicians: Bach, Rameau, Mozart, Haydn, and Saint-Saëns, in a personal selection of works, all adapted for the pipe organ by himself. You can hear orchestral music, opera, piano, and even solo violin, all reworked for the multiple colors of the organ.
This concert is also about an organ on the move. For the first time in Carcassonne, a transportable organ, the Explorer, is set up at the Auditorium for a concert. More than 600 pipes, 3 keyboards, and a pedalboard are on stage, making this often distant and mysterious instrument a close and sensitive concert instrument. Winner of several international competitions, Yves Rechsteiner, organist and harpsichordist, has been teaching the art of keyboard accompaniment of baroque music at the CNSM in Lyon since 1995. A lover of varied musical encounters, he has been directing the Toulouse les Orgues Festival since 2014. He conceived, with the complicity of Tony Decap's workshops, the Explorer that we hear tonight.
